Alan R. Beesley (M.A. Oxford) taught English in Finland from 1950 to 1963 and is the author of several books that are widely used for teaching English in Scandinavia. From 1963 to 1966 he was adviser to the Schools Broadcasting Unit, Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, and in this capacity he created an English language programme for the new school syllabus. He has written three readers for the Collier Macmillan English Programme, *Anna in London, A Push in the Right Direction* and *The Last Post*; his other activities include journalism, television documentaries and the writing of travel books.
