A. R. Myers, M.A., F.S.A., F.R.Hist.S., was a Lecturer in Medieval History in the University of Liverpool. A Yorkshireman born in 1912, he was educated at Hudders-field College and Manchester University, where he gained his First Class in History in 1934. His education in knowledge of human nature was advanced most rapidly during his war-time career in the Royal Navy, whether on active service in the North Sea, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean, or in shore establishments at Winchester and Hove, His final naval rank was that of Lieutenant-Commander. He contributed articles and reviews to various historical journals in England, Canada, and Germany, and prepared an edition of fifteenth-century royal household ordinances published by the Royal Historical Society.
