John is a Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester. He trained at the University of Manchester, qualifying as a mental health nurse in 1995, and has worked in a variety of inpatient settings, including acute and low secure rehabilitation. He has completed a number of post-graduate degrees, including his externally funded PhD (2007) 'Enhanc-ing the use of "as required"/"extra" (PRN) medication within acute mental health settings' and an MPhil (2001), which led to the develop-ment of the Attitudes towards Acute Mental Health (ATAMH [33]). In 2003, he was appointed Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing. John con-tinues to maintain good links with the NHS, supporting research in the clinical area and has published over 20 articles relating to mental health nursing with a focus on inpatient care and research methodology.
