Mercedes Eng writes and makes text-based art in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. She is the author of Mercenary English, a long poem about violence and resistance in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood of Vancouver, and Prison Industrial Complex Explodes, winner of the 2018 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. Her writing has appeared in Jacket 2, The Downtown East/Volcano, and the collectively producedchapbooks r/ally, Surveillance, and M’aidez.
