The Curia Regis was the Royal Council of England, comprised of tenants-in-chief and leading ecclesiastical figures. It was the Norman replacement of the Anglo-Saxon Witan and over the centuries evolved, stretching its authority and becoming an early precursor of the modern Parliament.
