Under his own name, he wrote extensively about early English actors and about British literary figures. He also wrote fiction as Christopher Haddon, and with <a href=http://openlibrary.org/authors/OL122595A>Hilary Saint George Saunders</a> under the collaborative pseudonyms <a href=https://openlibrary.org/authors/OL2556315A/Francis_Beeding/>Francis Beeding</a>, <a href=https://openlibrary.org/authors/OL2335418A/>David Pilgrim</a>, and John Somers.
