Paul F. Brandwein
Paul Franz Brandwein
Paul Franz Brandwein emigrated from Austria prior to WWII. As a child, he spent time in hospitals receiving treatment for childhood arthritis, and he developed an interest in science at that time. He earned a B.Sc. degree from New York University. While working on his undergraduate degree, he was also an assistant at the Littnauer Pneumonia Research Laboratory. In 1940, he earned his Ph.D. from NYU. He became a teacher at George Washington High School. In 1946, he began publishing science textbooks that emphasized hands-on science education. He was also interested in nature conservation, and with his wife Mary he established The Rutgers Creek Wildlife Conservancy.
