Michael James Talbot was born in Birmingham, England, in the 1950s. His parents were both originally from County Kerry, Ireland, so, in essence, he was brought up like an "Irish kid." In 1974, aged 19 years, he realised an ambition, to continue the Talbot family tradition, by becoming a policeman. He served in Birmingham for 30 years and retired in 2004. He witnessed much of what is now described as social history. His first book, on his life in the West Midlands police, was titled *A Peeler in the Family*. It was received with great interest.
