Howard L. Fields
<b><a href="http://profiles.ucsf.edu/ProfileDetails.aspx?Person=4821837">Howard L. Fields</a></b>, one of America's leading experts on pain, is a neurologist and professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. In addition to serving on the faculty of USCF School of Medicine, he <a href="http://www.galloresearch.org/howard-fields.htm">is the director</a> of human clinical research for the Gallo Center. His works include the 1987 text <i>Pain: Mechanisms and Management</i>; he served as editor of the 2nd edition of IASP <a href="http://www.iasp-pain.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=IASP_Press_Books2&Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=10731">core curriculum</a> on pain, where his "very successful" format was retained in the current (2005) edition. Fields acquired his undergraduate education at <a href="http://shimer.edu">Shimer College</a> and the University of Chicago, and earned his MD and Ph.D. at Stanford University.
