Neil Hollander is an American born author and filmmaker. In the 4 decades long career, Hollander has gone through many professions, from journalist and war correspondent, a sailor who spent three years on open see collecting material for his documentary film and book, to well-acclaimed writer of books for kids, books with nautical subjects and historical ones. Hollander was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1939. Soon after his family moved and they went on to live in France. After many years of traveling around the world, and living in countries like Thailand, Costa Rica, Brazil, for the past decade Hollander he been residing in Paris. He has proven to be successful in all the spheres he’s been professionally involved in. As recognition of his efforts, Neil Hollander has received 4 international awards for his documentary film “Riding the Rails”: MENTION SPECIALE DU PUBLIC - Deauville Festival of American Films, France; PLAQUE D'ARGENT - International Festival of Cinema Figueira da Foz, Portugal; GRAND PRIX DES MEDIAS - Journées Cinématographiques d'Orléans, France and SILVER AWARD - Houston International Film Festival, USA. On this film Hollander comes as a writer, producer and director. The film follows the fate of the “new poor” in America. For “Tramps” was awarded by LES FILMS DU TRIANGLE (France), WDR (Germany), FRANCE 3, & FIRST PREFERRED COMMUNICATIONS (Philippines). The film gives a preview of the life of refugees while they are escaping their homeland traveling on a ship. Other notable project of Hollander include: The Last Sailors, a film narrated by Orson Welles, which documents the last days of working sail; First Flights, a TV series with Neil Armstrong talking about the history of aviation, Nobel Voices, a project that celebrates the 100 years of the Nobel Prize and that includes 34 Nobel Prize Winners all interviewed by Neil Hollander for an exhibition hosted at the Smithsonian Museum and the Deutches Museum; Goldlust, Touchia, The Low Riders and more. As a writer Hollander has authored several books including his latest Elusive Dove: The Search for Peace During World War I. It is a book in which he gives an interesting look at what would today be called the “peace process” during World War I. The main focus is put on the discussion of the nineteenth century trend toward international cooperation. Then were the events which followed after July 1914 that quickly plunged Europe in war. Others of his books are The Great Zoo Break, The Yachtsman's Emergency Handbook: The Complete Survival Manual, The Last Sailors: The Final Days Of Working Sail, Cook is the Captain and others.
