--- The poet Akol Meyan Kuol was born in 1974 in the oil-rich region of Abyei, Southern Sudan. He was taken to Khartoum in the North in 1978 due to the political instability in the area which is still continuing up to the present time. He did his studies in the North and deserted the country in 1993. -- He was in the Middle East/North Africa, South Africa, Tanzania and he is now based in Nairobi, Kenya. Akol started to publish his poetry in Sudan since 1992. He published widely; in Egypt, the UK, the US and Kenya. He published two collections of poems entitled 'The Sun Will be Rising' and 'The Last Train'. His books can be found in the libraries of the leading American Universities; such as Yale University. He also co-authored a book for UNICEF on HIV/AIDS awareness. Akol's poems have been aired on the BBC World Service and Sudan Radion Service on several occasions.
