"Deluxe edition consisting primarily of a photographic album from the author's private collection celebrates inclusion of the historic center of Lima in UNESCO's World Heritage List. The cathedral and sagrario, parish churches, monasteries, convents, and other religious institutions are discussed in the first six chapters, while a shorter, additional seventh chapter is devoted to secular buildings. With the exception of a few contemporary color photographs that mark the chapter title pages, the large corpus of b/w photographs provides a valuable visual record of the rich colonial architectural heritage of the city from the late-19th century to the present. Includes images of important buildings lost to neglect and demolition. Informative texts derived from secondary sources, but also incorporating some of the most recent research introduce each of the monuments"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
