Architectural historian Adrian Forty, Professor Emeritus of History of Architecture at UCL (University College London), presents in this new ARQDocs two articles in which he discusses first, the use of the concept (and word) "primitive" at different moments in the disciplinary history, while in the other essay he reviews the relationship of dependence that architecture has with the written word, extending and revising the conclusions of his book ''Words and Buildings''.
