Evelyne Morin-Rotureau
Alexandra David-Néel (1868-1969) was a French explorer, spiritualist, and writer who became one of the first Western women to enter Tibet. This biography chronicles her remarkable journey from her early life in Europe to her extensive travels throughout Asia, particularly her expeditions to remote regions of Tibet where she studied Buddhist philosophy and culture. David-Néel's adventures included disguising herself as a Tibetan beggar to gain access to restricted areas, living in a cave at 14,000 feet for meditation, and eventually establishing a monastery in the Himalayas. Her writings introduced Western audiences to Eastern spiritual traditions and remain influential works on Buddhist philosophy. The book explores her contributions to cultural understanding between East and West, her scholarly approach to mysticism, and her legacy as a pioneering female explorer in an era when such journeys were rare for women.
