This is a brief biography of Khwaja Fareeduddin Ahmad (1747-1828) who was the maternal grandfather (naanaa)of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817-1898). The time of Khwaja Fareeduddin was when Mughal King Mohammad Shah was at the throne of Delhi while 'Ali Wardee Khan ruled in Bengal and Saadaat Khan in Awadh. This book also mentions Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's other ancestors particularly his mother. In that context it also throws light on some events of the War of Independence in 1857. The editor of the book Hakeem Mahmood Ahmad Barkaati has provided annotations on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's intellectual and political services. The editor has also provided short bio-sketches of all the important personalities mentioned in Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's book.
