15-year old Rosemary Carter's parents were recently killed in a plane crash. Now she and her younger brother, 11-year old Leo, are living with their aunt and uncle, who have no children and seem a bit ill-equipped to care for any. Leo falls in with a gang led by Derek "Hal" Halsey while Rosemary falls for 18-year old Scott Fleming.
