NEBST EINER DIE GESCHICHTE DER SAMMLUNG BETREFFENDEN EINLEITUNG VON JOSEPH GAISBERGER. Wien: Wilhelm Braumüller, 1871. Tall 4to, later full tan morocco; front cover paneled, lettered and decorated in gilt; spine with five raised bands, lettered and decorated in gilt; decorative endpapers. xxxii, 221, (1) pages; 8 mounted lithographic text figures of coins; 7 engraved plates of coins. Near fine. A handsome copy of this very scarce work. The text figures are limited entirely to the section on contorniates. The plates illustrate a wide variety of the coins in this collection. Babelon 199: “The current Keeper of the Imperial Collection, Friedrich Kenner.. compiled the catalogue of the Saint-Florian collection (adjacent to Ens), commissioned to celebrate the eight-hundredth anniversary of the foundation of the monastery (August 1871). We know from Kenner’s catalogue that the collection comprises some 3,540 Greek and 9,000 Roman coins.”
