Under the headline "yet suddenly emancipated science wishes to drive them", taken from the song of the sorority Hilaritas from Bonn founded in 1899, the authors analyse the history of women at the University of Bonn. When the University was founded in 1818 women participated in social life but only gained access to science and research after women were allowed to study, yet -- not without protest. Embedded in the different eras of German history the present volume analyses this changing development of the past 200 years with the help of biographic and thematical contributions
