Lucilla Andrews was only eighteen when, as a volunteer nurse during WWII, she experienced the grim realities of war. Young, inexperienced and from a comfortable background, she found herself dealing with survivors from Dunkirk and victims of the blitz. Seeing these horrors had a profound effect on her and made her determined to train as a professional nurse.
