Michael Schirner
In this work Michael Schirner, Germany{u2019}s "pope of advertising", explores the imagery of mass and high culture, and the media perception of mediated images. This book shows his latest series BYE BYE, 32 grainy reproductions of images that irritate, because they seem to be very well known, while being never before seen in their present forms. Viewers are torn between the known and unknown, seen and unseen, real and unreal, remembering and forgetting, appearance and reality, and falsehood. By reducing the elements of the image to a minimum--omitting everything that can be omitted--the audience relies on imagination, their thoughts about the work, to become the authors of their own meaning.
