Light comedy narration of a precocious boy who seems to always be in trouble with his parents and teachers. Amusing antidotes highlight his misunderstandings of adults and their world. Kind of a modern German Tom Sawyer. He grows up during Weimar Republic and then during WWII is in the army. Book ends as the war has ended and he has made it home.
