Maggie Tiojakin
Balada Ching-Ching is Maggie Tiojakin's second short story collection, published four years after her first collection in 2010. Though different from her debut collection (Homecoming and Other Stories) it is written in Bahasa Indonesia. Published by Indonesia's largest publishing house, Gramedia Pustaka Utama, Balada Ching-Ching has given Ms. Tiojakin the status as a part of the nation's new generation of most promising young writers. The Jakarta Post hailed it as "a great addition to Indonesian literature", while Elle Indonesia praised Ms. Tiojakin's ability to draw real-life characters who deal with daily oddities in a profound and often humorous way. Some readers have compared Ms. Tiojakin's talent to those of international literary stars, such as Jhumpa Lahiri and Chekov. Comprised of 13 short stories, some of which have been published in English journals, Balada Ching-Ching is regarded as a breakthrough collection in Indonesian literature.
