The goal of this work is to represent the topographical history of Athens while including the contributions of many different academic disciplines and viewpoints, such as that of anthropology, political history, economics, and religion. The literary sources are also taken into account. This work is not merely an update to past studies of Athenian topography, but rather an analysis that aims to rethink the history of urban space in Athens, using new approaches and subjecting past scholarly views to critical scrutiny.
