Cities often become the key battlefields in modern warfare, resulting of course in human casualty, and also in the wholesale destruction of urban structures. Afterwards, when reconstruction commences, it appears that the process follows strikingly similar patterns, across the world. Using the examples of Mostar (in Bosnia and Herzogovina) and Kabul in Afghanistan, this volume asks: is there a U.N. urbanism?
