This new history of Australian colonial art covering the period 1800 to 1900 is written around the exceptionally representative and high-quality collection held in Adelaide by the Art Gallery of South Australia. Many of the images are extremely well known but many more, especially those which have only recently been acquired, provide an opportunity to give a new interpretation and view of our early culture.
