Olive R. Cook
A story of two children, a boy and girl, who have to go to school in the country while staying with their grandparents during a time when their parents are job-seeking in the city. They attend a small one-room school, find an abandoned house and work to fix it up. The description the one-room school and its students and teacher fascinated me when I was a second grader back in 1959, and again when I read it as an adult in 2009! Still one of my most favorite books.
