It overspread in five continents within a short span of time. With wreck of lives and economy also taught the world some lessons. • Progressive use of the internet – online work helped from total deadlock to some extent of running a business & imparting education. • Unveiled the reality of the strength and weaknesses of global interconnectedness. The positive side overtook anti-globalism. This is the time countries helping each other beyond their own difficulties. • Learned to take precautions and handle health care issues. They were prepared for a hurricane; tsunami but now educated themselves to tackle such widespread illness. • Nations together realized the repercussion of posting, broadcasting fake news and rumors. 600 people in Iran followed hearsay that alcohol prevents COVID19, consumed and lost lives. • Personally becoming disciplined out of chaotic life. This social distancing period teaches people how to be systematic in their lifestyle. As the first time creating such turbulence this infirmity taught certain things to the world with extreme results of deeds of people & stakeholders. CHPTER 2 Economic Stimulus When there are any exigency nation-states, Internationals organizations grant economic stimulus for the survival of the masses. The current pandemic is rare because it spread over 188 countries around the world. Such a far-flung epidemic is hard to manage. For small to big industries are closed. Although it helped to clean the environment yet the economic loss is marked. While many were under unemployment and underemployment, this pandemic made large numbers to laid off. Cottage industries, mongers, and many other sectors are unable to keep on. Therefore, besides funding from World Bank and such organizations countries are allocating huge amounts of money as a stimulus package. Lately, the Indian government announced about 10% of its GDP as assistance. At the beginning of the epidemic, the Canadian government declared more than 3% of its GDP. China is back to achieve its goal of leaving no one below the poverty line by the end of 2020. In the midst of a huge number of job loss in USA private companies like Sales force, Wal-Mart are hiring. Although these contributions and incitement inputs may not serve the right one for each of their deserve position yet, a great relief for survival. CHAPTER 3 Diligence & Success A global epidemic, economic loss, trade and blame game of who is taking the opportunity of what is the talk of the time. Let’s discuss in short 2 countries, their pre-during-post epidemic planning & execution. After struggling three months China has almost controlled the contamination, reopening and back to business. Applying Nanotechnology China has made N95 no disposable face mask. Going back to its expedients: • In 1980 China introduced skill-based education & now has the largest skilled labors in the world. • Its infrastructure, means roads, power supply, etc, attract Foreign Direct Investment. • Established economic strongholds. E.g., electronics, automobiles, etc. and saved money to spend on transport. New Zealand is a small island country. It is not trying to flat the curve but planning to eradicate the current epidemic. • A survey conducted by CATO published; in 2019 New Zealand ranked number 1 in the Human Freedom index. • It diagnoses the scope of business. • Reviews design options & comes with a solution. • Far ahead than other developed countries in education and human rights. Focused target, action and impromptu diligence put them at the axis of enrichment. CHAPTER 4 Impulsive Social Change Impulsive social change is like “necessity is the mother of invention”. The fine line between the two is the former happens through motivation, automatically and subconsciously. Later is the conscious outcome of prolonged research and effort. The current epidemic, social distancing period came forth with certain new practices and sort of equality in manners. They are: • People learned to make an office atmosphere from their living room, terrace or any other place. • Most people learning to do their own chores. There is no difference between rich or poor all are doing their work at home. • People are becoming economical. Those who do not have money they have to be thrifty. At the same time affluent also saving more because of the shutting down of all luxury and entertainment places like shopping malls, cinema, clubs. Even people scrimp by not travelling & spending on fuels petrol, CNG. • Discipline has been accustomed by reluctant indiscipline species. It might be their tendency post- emergency too. Some socio-political observers may find this behavior of commonality as inclination towards socialism. Else surveyors possibly call it attestation of liberal welfare state. Whatever, it is just impulsive social change. CHAPTER 5 Haste Makes Waste Epidemic corona taught a common sense to mankind that ‘haste makes waste else snooze you lose’. In one word it is ‘discipline’. Attitude is: • The ailment would go away with a magic wand. The reality is, it takes time to do research, for medicine and vaccine. So, trying to do it immediately may have hostile consequences. • If medicals, administration do not act expeditiously, the pandemic can spread like wildfire. Ergo, the immediate action of social distancing, healthcare service, medical equipment is to be provided soonest. Otherwise, the epidemic cannot be restrained. Exaggeration of mainstream media to the inner voice of gossip mongers is always fabricating some spicy story. The footings are: • This is not new. In 1918-20’s Spanish Flu infected 500 million people & took innumerable lives. Yet the earth is in existence with its species. • Globalization is not the culprit. In 1918 people were not connected like today still, one-third of the world’s population was infected. • Medical scientists believe the virus can sustain ¾ months so precaution is the best grit. • Research aspires to get drugs & vaccines within months. Do your bit, rest maybe delight. CHAPTER 6 Leadership Shift Lately, worldwide medical staff becomes national and international heroes. They are working day, night sometimes without appropriate precautionary measures. Celebrities are darling of their fans having lacks of online and offline followers. They are leaders who drive emotion of masses. "The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.”- John Maxwell Many a time people consider a person who has obtained some title and occupies a chair. On the other hand their passion has a special place for that celebrated person. In recent days amidst the privileged hierarchical leadership, another type of directory role is emerging. They were always there but these days emanating like a seed out of the earth, this is known as Inspirational Leadership. They engage and draw on by: • Empathetic in nature • Translating lip service into action • Practice transparency • Do not micromanage • Encourage others to do their best • Farsighted • Excellent communicator Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Albert Einstein were such genre of leaders. Age of Fourth Industrial revolution also introduced such forerunners like Steve Jobs and Malala Yousafzai. CHAPTER 7 An Army Marches on its Stomach A carriage runs when it is fueled. Species act after taking food. Flora needs sunray, water to grow up. Front line workers face the hostile on the battleground or in the form of a lethal epidemic, need proper support to fight and control. It is high time, people need to learn from each other. Scientists of many countries are working tirelessly. They intended to develop medicine and vaccine. Looking into the current archive we can see the preparation, planning, and execution of few countries. Since China was the first country to get the epidemic, for the first weeks they could not handle but later on, created an example. In the beginning when China lockdown domestically it was also sealed by many countries. But China did not close its borders internationally, kept a close eye on & confine them in quarantine. In Italy, before the first COVID19 case detected there were many other patients treated as seasonal flu. Other reasons are, Italy has the second-largest aged population in the world. More smoking addicts and in the first phase did not maintain ideal social distance. Besides having high-quality healthcare capacity the US did not take timely steps or bother to realize ‘ an army marches on its stomach’. Anyway, this should be inculcation for all. CHAPTER 8 Throwing Mud On the issue of mudslinging on each other, Chinese ambassador to the USA gave a simple but judicious view that “such rumors are crazy on both sides”. This is not a cold war on trade but at the outbreak of the epidemic in March 2020, USA President and Secretary of State opined corona virus as ‘Chinese virus’ and the ‘Wuhan virus’. In retaliation spokesperson of Chinese foreign ministry tweeted “It might be the US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan”. Anyway, the Chinese envoy played as a peacemaker. Also got a salutation from the USA ,State Department too. This occurrence reminds such an incident of 1985 when Soviet Union alleged America of manufacturing AIDS (HIV positivity). Not only in international politics, in personal life people play the same game. Recently social media become their sharpest weapon. The characteristics of great leaders and persons are: • Acknowledge the truth • Rectify the wrongdoing not try to hide it • Move on while refraining from doing the hidden misdoing • Stay away from tattletales Throwing mud is a harmful foul play because no matter the stronger or weaker side, on the battlefield it hurts all. CHAPTER 9 Stand Alone or In a Cluster There is an old saying. “It is easy to break one stick but hard to bent a bundle”. That means people to be in unity but not in diversity. Only a few wise people understand and act upon. But the fear of epidemic has given a chance to use their intellect, when to stand alone & when in a cluster. Let’s take a case study of mob lynching. Palgarh a place, 70km away from India’s silver town and financial capital, Mumbai. Lately, at the time of lockdown, in broad daylight, two monks and a driver were brutally killed by the mob in the presence of the police. The important thing is the attackers and attacked belong to the same cult. So, no communal enmity is to be blamed. Is it a good example of a cluster or speaking against such hellish act and their supporters in stand-alone, which is appropriate? To use wisdom - Stand alone: • To follow fair principles – no compromise • Speaking up the truth for justice Cluster: • To share the delight • Stand by at the time of hardships The epidemic taught us to stay alone for the malady but help each other by contributing individually, through organizations & internationally. CHAPTER 10 Jack of All Trades Recently 188 countries are struggling with one epidemic. In this tender time, videos are floating on social media, some medical staff entertaining patients performing dance. While in India partly police making people aware of singing precautionary songs. This healthcare and security personnel are masters of providing drugs & defense but they become jack of amusement to give a soft touch to their professions. Also appreciated & lauded. Likewise, these days corporations consider soft skills as important as hard skills. For instance, a software engineer needs to have basic communication skills of writing e-mails, verbal speaking to share knowledge or programming with the team. Therefore, being a master in one skill and lacking all other needed traits is equal to a superlative engine with faulty tyres. In the age of compartmentalization and assemble, take an example of Tesla car: • Main office- California • AGC automotive gives windshields • ZF – power steering • Fisher Dynamics – power seats • Tesla Giga Shanghai – Tesla Model 3 Having expertise in one subject can be more productive with inordinate proficiency. So, not ‘jack of all trades master of none’ but ‘jack of all trades makes one master’. CHAPTER 11 Democracy or Sociocracy China and South Korea are two nations curbed the epidemic efficiently. While China has a socialist provision, South Korea got a democratic government. The system is different but the goal is the same as ‘control the contamination, save lives and attain normalcy’. Sometimes countries do not change ideologies. They compete unethically. Play the game of censure conspiracy. Moreover, the inscrutable creator pervading challenge which has no geographical barrier, no ethnicity preference, detached to haves, have-nots, developed or underdeveloped. This is an epidemic spreading in almost 200 sovereigns. There are some small nations like Samoa, Palau, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Tonga that have not yet infected. In all political systems, the role of governments has increased. Worldwide administrations declared a stimulus plan worth $10.6 trillion. Their purposes: • Try to fulfill the basic needs of the populace • Pull up unemployment • Inject energy in businesses This type of operation is grossly known as socialistic parameters. Clearly democracies are taking more charge to manage the situation. While the intention is well being, democracy or sociocracy, public welfare has supremacy. CHAPTER 12 Rumor & Greed While 188 are countries reeling by the epidemic, Israel Times published startling news that the health ministry told 5,630 people who were in quarantine to go to polling stations and vote. In the age of fourth industrial revolution, the planet is not wrestling with a pandemic but cruel greed and rumors too. A conspiracy story spread in the UK through radio, What’s up, Face book that 5G technology causing people to infected by the virus. Whereas they tumbled down the towers. The same happened in the Netherlands, Iceland too. During the ongoing lockdown, in Mumbai, thousands of crowd gathered near the railway station. The fake message was rail service has been started so they can go to their home town. Another blind belief aggregated more than 3000 people in Tamilnadu in the cremation of an ox. The question arises about the role of the administration. These fake stories, blind belief, rapacity, and hatred even at the time of such crisis make to think who is responsible, what about scientific facts? The answer is ignorance, hellish selfishness & racism making mankind malefic. Above all sharpness, it is warning of nature to modify themselves or mourn. CHAPTER 13 N95 Mask In an article published by ‘patient.info’ mentioned ‘pneumoconiosis’, it means respiratory ailments. Mostly seen in industrial workers of coal and asbestosis. WHO published globally 4 million people die of chronic respiratory malady. COVID19 created a wave of awareness about wearing masks. N95 Mask also became well-known. Amidst a shortage of masks, quality controversy many preferred to pay more & buy safety in N95. Keeping in view of the production & price it is suggested basically for frontline health workers. The formation of N95 is: • Anti-sticking cloth • Filter • Activates carbon It works: • Eliminates grit • Bacteria • Pollen • Automobile emission • Industrial pollution Shortcoming: • Made to use once only. Extricating shortfall: • In Feb 2020, a company at Shanghai manufactured first nanotechnology framed N95 which can be used 20 times. Cleaned with warm water, alcohol mixed chemical & Disinfectant 84. So, wellness conscious people can use it. The N95 mask is available in medical stores, online. But customers to check trademark, features before ordering it. May, this epidemic inventory make N95 Mask mandatory for Medicare personnel & industrial workers too. CHAPTER 14 Law of Scalability To some an expensive present, for others, a hand-made gift, company leaders like commitment beyond assignment, friends, and relatives look for communication in specific times of joy or difficulties. These are traits of overcompensation superlatively. This is considered a law because a small number of people are accustomed to this skill. There is more information on heinous compensation in the form of spreading rumors to slur or hide own sin. To get illicit pleasure, attacks out of jealousy, for instance, at this time of high rate of epidemic in 175 countries the World Economic Forum has to make a point that how governments and companies fighting misinformation. But it is not against revealing the truth. So, the law of compensation is, giving more than one gets in return. Passionately doing something and creating expediency repays more than expectations. It can be practice by: • Being authentic • Looking for the opportunity to serve your sublime • Put effort to know how applicable your effort will be • Have the ability to go the extra mile • Possess pertinence to drive the remuneration The efficiency of overcompensation can be acquainted only when one does what love to do & loves what to do. CHAPTER 15 April Showers Brings Fourth May Flowers “Philanthropy is not only money, it’s about feeling the pain of others and caring enough about their needs to help.” - Timothy Pina Like any other instinctive or manmade adversity, at the time of this pandemic, donations pouring in from governments, individuals & international organizations for the survival of the people But a new type of generosity emerging widely is spontaneously people adding worth in others lives: • Online videos • Motivational • Light entertainment • Free courses with & without certificates • Workout lesson • Meditation These contributions have immense value: • Masses are constrained by living normal life. • The news is full of estimation of increasing, flattening epidemic numbers. Rare sign of abolition. • Drugs are not available, vaccines will take time too. • Financial challenges. • Frustration, male dominance results in domestic violence. The good job comes out with: • Concentration in constructive things. • Prepares them enhancing skills for future workplace. • Assists in personality development. The nobleness of empathy, skill & emotional support is like April showers bring forth May flowers. CHAPTER 16 Epidemic Caution While the world is affected by an economic loss, there is no accurate data of the financial wreck due to the existing epidemic. No one is sure the level might be : • Economic slowdown • Recession • Depression Time will tell but what we are lacking is the skill of finance management. Current monetary loss is not a failure of the economy but in an accidental situation, people stop the commercial activity. The challenge is masses do not learn from beginning how to earn, manage small to large amounts. • Savings – people are familiar but there is no mechanism for financially weaker sections to deposit and spend in COVID19 like situation. There is no insurance for such a state. So, small home saving does not last long. • Invest - Fixed deposit Mutual fund Shares & stock Assets Yet, the issue is they are not available immediately & risky too. • Multiple –income – if people have small, big more than one income source when one stagnates other saves. The modalities include: Part-time job Assets Online income Money management in pedagogy will gradually create an environment of self-sufficiency at the time of COVID19 like an emergency. CHAPTER 17 Better Late than Never In the wake of the current epidemic, the world is in shortage of medi-cares. Drager, Teijin, GE & some other companies have invented portable oxygen concentrators. Technology facilitates necessities so fast. Incompatibly, our school curriculums do not include healthcare as a necessary subject. In physics, they read molecules, atoms. In biology count cells but not learn the practical thing of how to maintain cleanliness and sterility. Being tidy is considered as social hierarchy rather than required for all. This is the reason laziness, credulity making things arduous to curtail such prevalent contamination. Current challenges may stimulate adding a “wellness program” as a compulsory subject in the syllabus. • Awareness about recurring illnesses like seasonal flu, viruses, etc. • How to take household precautionary measures. • Proper diet. May not be rich food but nourishments from simple meals. • The effect of litter, how it spreads. E.g., according to WHO each year 3.4 million people die out of waterborne disease. By eating not washing hands or drinking filthy water. There is no need to go to a physician on every alternate day. Fundamental awareness is exigent. May COVID19 make it better late than never. CHAPTER 18 Artificial Intelligence is the New Astrologer The Novel Corona Virus alias COVID19 alias SARS-CoV2 has proved the capability of Artificial Intelligence as the New Astrologer. Several research institutes, universities predict the regions to be affected by the epidemic and when it will end. Lately, Singapore University of Technology & Design updated its data-driven estimation (source- https://ddi.sutd.edu.sg/): Region Percentage End month Date • World 97% May 30 • Singapore 97% May 9 • Italy 97% May 9 • USA 97% May 15 • Russia 97% May 23 • India 97% May 24 Although they have forecast for 170 countries this is not a hundred percent accurate. The data are taken off: • Particular region • Outside transmission rate • Community spread • Raising, diminishing, and flattening the curve of certain days, weeks. • Testing & quality of testing • Age • Health record of infected people • Treatment techniques working like plasma, malaria drugs, etc. • The calculation can be reversed if: • People change their behavior and do not maintain social distancing • Lack enough & accurate testing • Healthcare system slows down The calculation can be reversed if: People change their behavior and do not maintain social distancing • Lack enough & accurate testing • Healthcare system slows down The new and interesting news is AI playing the role of astrologer and people are embracing it. CHAPTER 19 Epidemic A Test of Peaceful Diplomacy The incessant experiment is going on by scientists of more than 70 countries. Target is to invent medicine and vaccine for epidemic COVID19. They are constantly sharing information & knowledge. On the occasion of 24th April, “International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace”, what else could be more significant than this gesture as Diplomacy for Peace? While politicians are throwing hot water on each other, these people are busy saving lives. Diplomacy is the art of governments and their delegates to have mutual relations solve problems through dialogue and work for a win-win situation. The emergence of the internet brought massive change to the approach of diplomacy. Now diplomats appearing on social networking site other than dealing with counterparts. By default, the pandemic made countries to practice multilateralism and peaceful democracy. The case study is, while they are sealing borders to curtail infection, helping each other in exchanging drugs, masks, testing kits, safety medical gowns, etc. One step ahead of internet, this approach of diplomacy should be a guideline for Foreign Service holder diplomats to imbibe the spirit of these medical researchers. The epidemic is a proven test of peaceful diplomacy. CHAPTER 20 Cleanliness “ We have to learn how to come out of unclean situations cleaner than we were, and even how to wash with dirty water when we need to”- Friedrich Nietzsche Practicing cleanliness physically, the home, environment is known as well-conducted. Cultures have set traditions to maintain neatness. Now nature compelled human beings to be sincere in sanitation by the current epidemic. People are obliged to be cleaner. Not only had that lockdown enforced them to make the environment fine. • Stops air pollution. • NO2 produced from cars, power plants & other industries creates asthma and other illness dropped significantly. • PM 2.5 from factories, agricultural & wood burning, motors create lung ailment. That also lessened to a large extent. Corona, lockdown, mankind, and environment orderliness have a direct relation to Friedrich Nietzsche’s mentioned ‘dirty water’. In this context ‘economic activity’ is the dirty water. Rat race & human transaction is inhaling without which people will die. On the other hand, same doings create taints. So, nature imparts teaching that although financial exercise is necessary to sustain society, surrounding can be saved by halting busy world periodically & prove ‘cleanliness is godliness’. CHAPTER 21 Environment pollution & epidemic infection The BBC Future planet section published, due to the closing of factories and vehicles off on the street, air pollution has dropped down. It is 44% in Wuhan, the city where the pandemic broke out. It is 54% in Seoul, as South Korea contributes 2% of CO2 emission globally and 60% in New Delhi which is the second populous city in the world. Environmental pollution has a direct impact on the wellbeing of mankind & epidemic infection. As COVID19 is the ailment of the respiratory system, the shutdown itself explains the impulse. Although it was there yet the pandemic made people & policymakers to : • Go for self- environmental cleaning – by shutting factories and automobiles off the road periodically. Manufacturing electronic vehicles, while China is ahead, other countries are also doing so. • Resorting to Green economy: - Ø Renewable energy Ø Energy smart buildings – which get more natural light & air, desists heat Ø Water, waste & land management Lately, the newly elected government in South Korea is focusing on Green New Deal. According to The Diplomat magazine, it pledges to reach zero emission by 2050. Seeing the immense effect all policymakers might set long-term goals but act on immediate cleansing of the environment. CHAPTER 22 The other side of the pandemic An article published in The Guardian. It beautifully described “A pandemic within a pandemic” has been exposed. Studies show during this epidemic lockdown, in many countries domestic violence has been increased to 25%. The lesson for the world is when one exigency occurs it also takes curtains over many good and bad. Now it opened the eye of the man-made environmental pollution, its effect and it can be lessened. On the other hand it reveals the sore truth of soaring household severity. The socio-psychological truths come out: • The people who are so violent in the house there is the probability of them being violent outside too. • If within and outside four walls not secure in so many countries, then what are we doing in the names of many humanitarian organizations? • It proves these so-called mongers of social, political, administrative institutions are themselves breeds of such culture; therefore this fierceness is increasing not decreasing. • Because of social status, custom, and themselves part of this violence many women are also responsible for such malpractice. As per The Guardian, many countries like Canada, India, and France are taking measures. I wish this should bring a real social breakthrough! CHAPTER 23 A glimmer of expectation – end of the epidemic A glimmer of expectation. Raise a toast! It’s not a celebration in hurry but the shine of expectancy, haste amidst huffing and puffing of pandemic. Slovenia declared the end of COVID19 in its territory. This European country‘s border adjoins to Italy. Having 2.084 million population claims end of the epidemic. CNBC reports the country’s National Institute of Public Health confirmed: “All indicators point to a slowdown in the spread of the virus in the population”. Many countries are still struggling with it. Some scientists apprehend a second wave. Some believe that the epidemic might be eradicated by itself. While reopening, China also started re-testing at Wuhan. But ascending in the operation of reopening. Even Shanghai’s Disneyland opened. While scientists have left no stone unturned and relentlessly working on generating therapy, Slovenia’s affirmation brings hope of natural remedy among common people. Mass immunity system, the weather may be considered as some elements which are responsible for slow contamination or effacement of the epidemic. Nevertheless, taking precautions like maintaining immunization is in the hands of the people. Definitely Starting over differs from place to place & capacity of the administration. CHAPTER 24 Light at the End of the Tunnel April 22nd, 2020 is a day to be remembered in the medical history of vaccines. On this day the Oxford university team initiated clinical trials of the vaccine on humans for COVID19. The experiment uses healthy adults between the age of 18 to 55. Medical scientists seem assured that the final outcome will be available by September. India and other nations will get the vaccine by December. This accomplishment stands at the crossroad of all odds: • While some engaged in slandering each other, these scientists were working tirelessly for the benefit of the populace of the planet earth. • Economists may find a way that short-term financial crisis should not convert to long-term plight. • People in a puzzling mental state of fear of epidemic infection, the frustration of sitting at home, and impeded social relation will get a sigh of relief. Foremost news is, partner pharmaceutical companies are trying to abate the price. The cost will be at the reach of all countries. This indication is the expectancy of termination of the days of apprehension. Just like ‘ light at the end of the tunnel = = = = = = = = = = = END Contact Email: nandinipublishing8@gmail.com This book is an eye-opener and useful during and after epidemic COVID19. It discusses political turmoil in and between countries, economic slowdown, environmental pollution, and social issues like increasing domestic violence during the pandemic.
