A collection of papers presented at the all-Russian conference entitled "Urgent Problems Confronting the Improvement of Civil Law Instruction under Present Conditions," which was hosted by the Law Department of St. Petersburg State University, March 23-26, 1999. Papers dealt with the following topics, among others: reforming the course in civil law; the role of practical work assignments in the study of civil law; the relationship between civil law and commercial law courses; teaching commercial law at Moscow State University; using new information technologies in teaching civil law; the specifics of teaching civil law at Ministry of Internal Affairs institutions of higher learning; Federal Law of July 24, 1998, "On obligatory social insurance against accidents in the workplace and job-related illness and the teaching of civil law."
