In 1973, the Yom Kippur War in Israel draws the world's superpowers into action. Commander Mickey Brandon receives orders to patrol the Strait of Gibraltar and make sure the way is clear for the American naval forces. Meanwhile, Deniska Bagirli, captain of a Russian nuclear sub, has been ordered to intercept any American response, an order he interprets as permission to fire at will.
