Nazih Makki
Lyric poems and elegies about the Lebanese Civil War. Some poems such as "THe Deserted Street" mourn the death of once-beautiful places. One poem "Mariam" (100 pages long) is a narrative that celebrates the courage of one young Lebanese woman who, as a newly-wed, tries to dissuade her husband from returning to join the fighting in the streets of Beirut. She desperately tries and to achieve that cause she finally sacrifices herself.
