Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy. Institute for Affordable Housing Policy
This report presents the first detailed analysis of the information collected in the SHIP Database, in order to provide the most comprehensive overview available of subsidized housing in New York City. The first section provides a brief summary of New York City's subsidized housing and the ways in which the major subsidy programs differ from each other. The subsequent four sections describe the history of development under the programs in each category, report the characteristics of properties developed within each, and analyze the number of properties and units eligible to exit each affordability program in the next five years. Tthe final section discusses the opportunities for preserving affordability by identifying properties across the four portfolios with subsidies that will expire in the next five years.
