Julius K. Nyerere
Forty-six articles and speeches covering a five-year period from January 1968 to January 1973 by Julius K. Nyerere, author, philosopher and [then] president of Tanzania. The writings contain his views on African unity and liberation; democracy, equality, and human rights; economic development; education and health; and international affairs. He relates the problems and possibilities facing an African country in the throes of maturation and development from the singular vantage point of the man who leads the nation. He describes Tanzania's goals rather than her current state of achievement, goals which include the establishment of a socialist society and the unification of Africa. Included is "Ten Years After Independence," a complete summary of Tanzania's progress and accomplishments - as well as failures - during those years.--From back cover.
