Wallraf-Richartz-Museum.
72 watercolors came from the Haubrich collection of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne, and 26 additional works from American private collections. Horst Keller, director of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, selected the watercolors from Cologne and wrote the introduction to the catalogue for the International Exhibitions Foundation. Gallery staff William P. Campbell, Grose Evans, and E. John Bullard assisted in the preparation of the show. The exhibition was organized and circulated by the International Exhibitions Foundation. "Ever since the time of Durer and the Masters of the Danube School there have always been German artists who have excelled in the medium of watercolor. Indeed, many have found their finest, most lasting expression in these spontaneous and fragile works on paper. Again and again, these artists have selected the medium of watercolor to record both precise observations of nature and fleeing images of the imagination, of movement, light and shade. Among them, the Expressionists deserve particular attention, and we are fortunate to be able to present a selection of more than seventy of such masterpieces in this exhibition." -- Excerpt from the book.
