Christopher Pawling
Christopher Caudwell was only twenty-nine when he was killed in action in February 1937 at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. Largely unknown at the time of his death, his reputation has been established subsequently as one of the most original English cultural critics of the Twentieth century.
