"A story about southern Sudan in which an entire town is massacred. Two children escape and travel across the desert to Ethiopia in the company of two young men from the South who are taking about 100 young people to Ethiopa. They spend time in the Ethiopian refugee camp and one of them, Victoria, is sent to a refugee camp in Kenya. At about the same time, a young woman of African descent, Abena, who is a student at UBC, decides to go and work in an African refugee camp and ends up in the Kenyan refugee camp where Victoria and her two children are being housed. Appalled by the conditions, she helps Victoria and her two children to escape and brings them to Canada."--
