Expressionist Scherer
Work detail
In his short life, Hermann Scherer (1893?1927) created an impressive oeuvre within the space of a few years and is regarded today as one of the most important ExpresƯsionists in Switzerland. However, art history has "labelled? him as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner?s pupil and invariably viewed his work? more direct, more raw, more emotional? in the light of this comparison. Both artists worked together periodically in the seclusion of the Davos mountains; their works evince a number of stylistic, motivic and technical parallels. But the relationƯship between the two men was more complex. 00Exhibition: Städtische Museen Freiburg, Germany (28.09.2019 - 16.03.2020).
