Modern theatrical interpretation of "Historia de Indias" (1526 - pub.1875) by Bartolomé de las Casas and the romantic novel 'Enriquillo' (1882) by Manuel de Jesús Galván. The play recounts the life of a christianized indian chief of the Hispaniola, who as an infant witnessed the infamous massacre of Jaragua. Guarocuya submitted by soldiers and teached by franciscans monks, unjustly devoided of all belongings by colonial justice, was the defeater of three Spanish Captain Generals in command of the most powerful army of the medieval world. His guerrilla warfare techniques as part of the first armed insurrection of the Americas, forced the delivery of an armistice signed by emperor Carlos V. The story also depicts the making of the famous romantic novel "Enriquillo", with the author as a character of the plot.
