Revealed religion
Work detail
The posthumous sale of West's works in 1829 included a number of the works on "Revealed Religion" commissioned by King George III. The pictures acquired for Joseph Neeld, M.P., were hung at Grittleton House, Chippenham, Wiltshire, where they remained until 1962 when they were offered for sale at Christie's on November 16. Six were acquired for Bob Jones University with funds provided for that purpose by a friend of the University who asked to remain anonymous. They were hung in the War Memorial Chapel together with a seventh canvas, "Esau and Jacob presented to Isaac," which also formed part of the Windsor Chapel decorations. This painting had been acquired from another source by Julius Weitzner, the London art dealer. Henry and Oscar Dwoskin purchased it for the University. - p. [4]-[5].
