While wandering on the Sussex Downs, David Ellwand finds the diary of Isaac Wilde, a Victorian photographer on an archeological dig who vanished after taking a picture of a sleeping fairy. Ellwand becomes increasingly convinced that fairies exist but his need to discover the truth might be dangerous.
