Critical edition of Declamationes Maiores 4 (Mathematicus). The Declamationes Maiores are falsely attributed to the Roman rhetorician Quintilian (c. 35-100 AD). The argument of Declamationes Maiores 4, Mathematicus ("the Astrologer"), concerns a man who consults an astrologer about his destiny and learns that he will be a war hero, but will then kill his own father. After fulfilling the first part of the prophecy, the man asks the senate for permission to commit suicide before he can fulfill the second part.
