The patrimony of the "casarao" (old house) of Bixiga neighbourhood, also known as the Casa de Dona Yayá, is today the location of the Cultural Preservation Center of the University of Sao Paulo (CPC - USP). As arts and crafts express the different feelings of beign part of Bixiga, the CPC -USP documented the local artistic creations in a collaborative research, in which interested researchers collaborated with local craftsmen and artists. The book comprises the produced materials during the workshops of photography, video, cartography and ethnography promoted within the local community of this neighbourhood in the center of the city of Sao Paulo. The material was gathered for the first time for the exhibition "Bixiga em Artes e Ofícios", consisting of images, sounds and texts produced during the collaborative project and which are available in Internet. The book also features the participation of invited researchers, which bring reflections about the neighborhood, the theme, the practices and their meanings.
