Intended to be a supplement to the teaching given in theological schools and initiate in the scientific study of the Bible those who already possess a solid theological and cultural foundation. Presents to the clergy and cultured lay people a survey of present-day research and of the solutions being considered. With such a work the professor will find help in basing his own teaching on a scientific foundation that is stronger and better informed, and his students will acquire, in the light of the teaching of the Church, a more precise understanding of Scripture through their knowledge of modern critical discussions.
