Part-I concentrates on general topics starting with a personal view of anthropology, continuing with chapters on Functionalism, Structuralism and Symbolic Anthropology and concluding with a chapter on the connection between joking relationships and kinship; and a review of the topic of ethnicity. Part-II focusses on kinship in India and concludes with a comparative study of identity in selected Indian tribes. Part-III has chapters on evolution, structuralism, a critique of a work on sociobiology and a review of kingly theories of caste in India.
