GERARD HOFFNUNG, his biography by ANNETTA HOFFNUNG
Work detail
A superbly informative and amusing life story of a genius. Gerard Hoffnung (1925 - 1958). Almost everything he did as a public figure in the United Kingdom was humorous, whether as an artist (especially cartoonist), musician (especially tuba player), impresario of musical events, author, broadcaster, and raconteur. He also became a Quaker and prison visitor. Cat-lover. Possibly best known for the recording of his hilarious telling the tale of The Bricklayer's Lament to the Oxford Union in 1958. A tremendous loss at such an early age to British entertainment.
