Grania arrives back in Grenada, in 1795, and learns that her father intends her to marry Roderick Maigrin, a coarse, drunken, but rich planter. There is a rebellion and Grania flees to Secret Harbour for protection, but when she enters the house she finds a notorious pirate there.
