This study compared the competitiveness of the Finnish manufacturing industry with the German and Swedish industries. For Finland and Germany the period under analysis covered the years from 1971 to 1989 and for Sweden from 1980 to 1989. Other aims were to study the coverage and representativeness of the total samples and to give a general view of the three economies. Further, the behavior of the main competitiveness indicators was examined.
