**English**: In 1545 a schooner arrives at the port of Messina. It has been sailing for weeks in the Mediterranean. They're escaped prisoners from a prison in Istanbul. Several survivors of Sarmiento's third, the one who six years before defended Castelnuovo square until the last consequences, were travelling there. Andrés, a soldier of the third, will tell us how the Holy League was dissolved and how they were abandoned to their fate in a fortress surrounded by Ottoman troops, commanded by Barbarossa who, taking advantage of the situation, decided to recover it. The relation of forces is 4000 Spanish soldiers for about 64 000 Ottomans, so, without help from the outside, the only decision is to surrender the square or die. In other words, the only option was to die.
