"Although it is generally accepted that there is a growing demand for multinational and pan European databases, there is little available on the problems encountered in different types of multinational geographic information applications, nor has there been much discussion of the broader legal and constitutional issues involved at the supranational level. With this in mind the GISDATA programme of the European Science Foundation convene a meeting of experts to address these very issues. This book is a record of the conference. "European geographic information infrastructures" contains chapters of two types. The first are case studies of a variety of applications involving geographic information through two or more countries. The second set of chapters examine the legal and constitutional issues which need to be considered at a European level.
