Danger, dedication and death are woven into the fabric of this exciting novel of missionary life as it is lived today. Based on actual events in the annals of missionary adventure, this story takes the reader to the field where he experiences the day-by-day difficulties and small triumphs of life on frontier missionary outposts. The tremendous contribution of pioneer missionary aviation also plays a prominent part in this fast-moving tale. Dr. Bill McAdams, who was featured in Mr. Percy's earlier novels, again occupies an important place in this saga of courage and daring in the face of obstacles and danger. He is faced with the personal choice of whether to attend the birth of his first child in the Fraican bush, or to fly to the aid of a martyred missionary's widow. The main plot of the story revolves around the real-life experiences of Merlin Grove, a Mennonite missionary martyred at the hands of the fierce Kitta people, and his wife who is grievously injured by these same savages. The pilot of the missionary plane, an unusually appealing character, makes the exciting rescue and later has a close brush with death. How these two striking people seek to mend their lives in the will of God is a strikingly absorbing episode of this moving story.
