The crab version was found in British Guyana by German folklorist, Theodor Koch-Grünberg. A Brazilian version is found in Livia de Almeida’s Brazilian Folktales. The retelling in this book was inspired by Margaret Read MacDonald’s Twenty Tellable Tales.
